Don’t leave loved ones guessing how to access online accounts

We hope you have been able to follow along on the Estate Planning Organizer journey. If not, it’s not too late to start!

The next section in the organizer focuses on documenting your online accounts such as financial account logins, social media, etc.

With the advent of the digital age, there is a tremendous amount of information at your fingertips. This can be both a blessing and a curse…at least for me it is. I love being able to do a quick search on my phone and have anything I want to know available in seconds. The hard part is not being overwhelmed by it all. This is especially true of your online accounts.

While in this process, I was shocked at the sheer volume of accounts my husband and I use online that I take for granted. It’s so commonplace now that I don’t think it even occurs to us how lost we would be without all of this information.

Consider the impact and stress put upon a loved one by not sharing this information and them having to recreate it all from scratch. This tool can not only alleviate a lot of headaches for your loved ones, but also for you as you try to keep track of them all. A word of caution though, this would be dangerous information to have saved on your computer. It would be best kept in a secure location like your safe or fire-proof, locking file cabinet.

An alternative to documenting everything in your planner would be to use an app that keeps track of it for you. There are a number of apps that will do this and it could certainly help keep you sane in trying to remember all this information for your own personal use as well. If you do use an app to keep track of passwords and such, be sure to include that in the planner!

While you are working on your estate planning, it is also a good idea to review your financial records. This would include updating beneficiaries, making sure you have enough life insurance in force and reviewing your retirement plan to ensure you are on track to meeting your goals.

Call your Hermann Sons Life agent today to review your insurance program or call us at 210-527-9113 or 1-800-234-4124 to be connected to an agent in your area.
