Whats Happens to Your Lodge Dues

Membership in Hermann Sons Life is valuable in all respects. We begin our journey with the purchase of a life insurance policy and/or an annuity, and as an extra benefit we become a member of a local lodge. Hermann Sons Life is strong throughout the state with 136 local lodges. Our 70,000-plus members all belong to a local lodge that offers the opportunity to meet new friends, enjoy social networking, plan lodge activities and events, donate volunteer hours through service projects and give support to our communities.

Membership fees or dues are traditionally assessed when you join an organization. Organizations need financial backing to sustain them and membership dues are one way of providing that funding. By collecting dues, the organization can do more for the membership and the community.

As a fraternal benefit society, Hermann Sons Life is no different. All Hermann Sons Life members, both adult and junior, are required to pay local lodge dues as specified in our Grand Lodge Laws as well as in the Bylaws of Local Lodges. The local lodge dues remitted to the Home Office in San Antonio are deposited monthly into the bank accounts of local lodges. The local lodge dues help maintain the financial stability of the lodge so it can operate efficiently and carry out its mission of service to the community.

Community service projects include goodwill donations, Join Hands Day and Make A Difference Day activities and other special events sponsored by the lodges that are community and civic oriented.

Local lodges meet regularly and most gatherings include a social before or after the meeting. Socials vary from lodge to lodge but many lodges provide a meal or main entree, drinks and other entertainment. Local lodge dues help cover these monthly expenses as well as the cost of special celebrations such as holiday parties, lodge anniversaries, summer picnics, bowling outings, sporting events and/or restaurant visits. Lodge dues help pay the lodge’s monthly expenses including utility bills, salaries, lodge incentives, etc.

The dues might also be used to provide college scholarships, memorial donations, donations to the local school of dance and youth camp sponsorships.

Each lodge is different and has certain funds allocated for different projects, but through all the lodge activities, lodge dues provide some of the needed financial assistance that keeps our local lodges in operation. Local lodges rely on the dues members pay in order to offer a well-rounded program.

Local lodges are vital to the fraternal system. Local lodges represent Hermann Sons Life in the communities in which they exist. They provide awareness of the Hermann Sons Life name and its mission to provide financial protection to members and their families and to serve the communities in which they live.

The local lodge dues you pay help maintain your lodge. I invite you to attend the next meeting or social event sponsored by your lodge. See first-hand and learn how your membership dues are working to make your lodge and your community stronger.
