As the Community Service Coordinator for my lodge - Mission-Alamo Lodge - it’s my job to plan the lodge’s Join Hands Day project. This year I wanted the project to be really special – something that would really make an impact. I didn’t have to look far for inspiration.
After that tragic November Sunday morning in Sutherland Springs, we found out that one of the victims, Kris Workman, is a member of Mission-Alamo. I knew immediately that helping him needed to be our focus this year.
I was telling Cecily Kelly, Member Benefits Coordinator here at the Home Office and a member of Lone Oak Lodge, about my idea to do a fund-raiser for Kris. Cecily and her family know Kris from the I-37 raceway in Pleasanton. That’s when we decided that our lodges should work together on a project and we came up with the idea for the Hamburger Dinner Fund-raiser.
As many of you know, my son, Seth, is a member of the Young Marines. After talking with the other Young Marine parents, I knew we could count on their help as well.
Kris is using a wheelchair to get around so the money we raise will help him with the cost of altering his home to make it more accessible.
Hermann Sons Life Mission Alamo and Lone Oak lodges would love for you to join us so we can make this event a huge success.
It will be held Thursday, May 3, (that’s tomorrow) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the San Antonio Hermann Sons Home Association Building located at 525 S. St. Mary’s St. Just park behind the building and join us on the first floor for the Hamburger Dinner. For just a $7 donation, you can get a hamburger, chips and tea packaged to go if you would like to take it with you. Desserts also will be available for an additional donation.
Purchasing a ticket and attending the event will demonstrate your support for Kris and his family. If you aren’t able to attend, consider sharing this blog or making a donation.
