Family, Fun and Basketball

Growing up in San Antonio I have a lot of great memories of fun times with my family. Some of those memories were made watching our favorite basketball team – the San Antonio Spurs!

I attended my first game when they were still playing in the Hemisfair Arena downtown. The reason I remember this so vividly is that was the first time I performed with my dance company at halftime. I believe I was around 9, so that was around 1986. I remember being so nervous before we went out on the floor but once I got out on the court I had a blast. Afterwards we had fun watching those very tall men compete.

We continued going to games for several years in that arena until the Alamodome was built and the Hemisfair Arena was torn down. The team’s first year in the Alamodome was the 1993-94 season. By then my stepfather’s company had season tickets and we were privileged enough to be able to attend games when there were no clients to entertain. I remember all four of us, me, my mom, stepfather, and sister getting all dressed up in our Spurs gear and cheering on David Robinson and the “Little General” Avery Johnson!

When the team drafted Tim Duncan and won its first NBA title in 1999 we were all around the TV watching every game with baited breath.  Of course, a few years later they moved into what is now the AT&T Center. This facility was finished in 2002 and the Spurs have been playing there ever since.

So why am I rambling on about my family and the Spurs? Good question!

Last year when Hermann Sons was approached about being a part of the Kellogg’s Gymnastic event and the Rampage event we were asked if we would be interested in having a Hermann Sons Family Fun Night at a Spurs game! Being the fan I am, of course I wanted this to happen. When I was told to make it happen I jumped at the opportunity so that Hermann Sons members could see this team in action!

So on Feb. 4, it will be Hermann Sons Family Fun Night at the Spurs vs Denver Nuggets game at the AT&T Center here in San Antonio. Tickets are $50 each and we will be seated in the upper 200 level. This ticket will also include a Hermann Sons Social Hour in the Rock N’ Brews area of the arena starting at 6 p.m.

Just like with the Gymnastics event and the Rampage game, a portion of the sale of each ticket will benefit the Grief Support Session at Hermann Sons Camp this summer. This is such a worthy cause.

Click here to get the flyer and to order your tickets. Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 13 so we can all be seated together.

Hope we can get a great crowd out to show support for the Spurs!

Go Spurs Go!
