Relief Efforts Begin with Delivery to Rockport

Just wanted to update everyone on what Hermann Sons Life is doing to assist communities along the Gulf Coast as they begin to recover in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

On Wednesday, Vice President of Member Benefits Kim Krueger, Maintenance Director Terry Haecker and I went to Rockport to deliver eight generators and eight chainsaws along with other supplies such as extension cords, gas and oil for the chainsaws, bug spray, sunscreen, wipes and bottled water.

We delivered the items to Rockport City Hall where Scott Hamilton, the father of our Underwriting Director Amy Heinsohn, is helping to coordinate a “borrow and return plan” for Rockport residents to utilize the generators and chainsaws as they begin the process of rebuilding their homes.

We used money set aside in the disaster relief fund to pay for these items.

We also are aware that many of our members are experiencing a disruption in their mail service. For members living in the affected areas, if you are concerned about getting a payment to us, please call Carol Swan at 800-234-4124, ext. 258, or Darla Howell at 800-234-4124, ext. 268, to discuss other payment options.

Some lodges across Texas are donating to areas and causes special to them. And we applaud their efforts. If you or your lodge have made a donation or taken part in some relief effort, please let us know so that we can share your story with others.

And we aren’t finished with our outreach efforts. We are accepting monetary donations from individuals and lodges. That money will be used to provide assistance in other coastal towns. We have already received several online donations and I am confident there are more to come.

Individuals and members wishing to make a donation can do so by clicking HERE or by mailing your donation to Hermann Sons Life Home Office, P.O. Box 1941, San Antonio, TX 78297-1941, Attn: Community Service Coordinator Laura Adams.

You can get updates on how your donations are helping these communities by liking our Facebook page, checking our website and the Hermann Sons Life newspaper, which can also be found online.

If you have been displaced by Hurricane Harvey and do not want your newspaper sent by mail, please left us know by calling 800-234-4124, ext. 273. You can read it online at any time.
